Alberta’s Drought Response Plan is designed to help government, irrigators, communities, businesses and others respond quickly and effectively to drought. The objective of each action in the plan is to protect the health and safety of Albertans from the impacts of drought. This information sheet explains the five stages of drought response and drought response tools.

Alberta's framework for the management of contaminated sites is designed to achieve three policy outcomes: pollution prevention, health protection, and productive use. Under this framework, three management options are provided: Tier 1, Tier 2, and Exposure Control. Under Tier 2 it may be possible to screen out certain exposure pathways and/or modify the Tier 1 guidelines on the basis of site conditions. This companion document describes how the Tier 2 approach might be used to develop remediation objectives for a site.

This document describes Alberta's apportionment agreement with the other prairie provinces. The Rocky Mountains in Alberta are the headwaters of many rivers that flow east into the other prairie provinces. To help ensure that downstream provinces can meet their water needs, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba have agreed to share water resources between the three provinces. The process of determining each province’s portion of water is referred to as apportionment.

Assistance is available to water users who have an urgent need to find alternative diversions for the purpose of accessing water due to drought and low flow conditions, and who, if required, need assistance in submitting an application for regulatory authorizations under the Water Act.

The plan outlines: five stages of Alberta's drought response; the roles and responsibilities of partners, including government, to help everyone collaborate and communicate; regulatory and non-regulatory approaches and tools that may be used in various drought conditions; and how and when emergencies would be declared as a last resort.
