In this study, all existing sources including point sources, non-point sources and background sources, that are contributing phosphorus to the Bow River from headwater to Bow Mouth were identified, assessed and compared for their spatial and seasonal contributions based on best available data. Source identification and quantification provide fundamental information to the next step, Maximum Allowable Load determination.

The study area extends from Banff National Park to Bearspaw Dam, including through Canmore, Cochrane, Exshaw, Ghost Lake, Kananaskis Improvement District, Lac des Arcs, Municipal District of Bighorn, Rocky View County, and Stoney Nakoda First Nation.

This report presents the methods used to generate the web-based Condition on Environment (CoE) content published for chloride (Cl-) concentrations in the surface water of major rivers and their tributaries across Alberta. Accordingly, this report helps fulfill the responsibility of reporting to the public on the condition of Alberta's ambient environment, as required by the province's Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act. In particular, this report outlines the steps taken to obtain and prepare the data, assess the quality of the data and conduct spatial and temporal analyses of Cl-. The goal of this report is to neither investigate nor summarize potential Cl- sources, but rather to summarize spatial and temporal trend of Cl- concentrations in the surface waters of Alberta's major rivers and tributaries.

Advisian was awarded a five-year (2017-2021) contract to complete the North Bow Site environmental monitoring work. This executive summary provides an overview of the findings of works completed in the first year of this program from March 2017 to March 2018.
