Forest company forest management plans detail when, where and how timber on Alberta Crown land will be managed in order to balance social, economic and environmental needs based on input from the public, Indigenous peoples and interest groups. The forest management planning area under consideration is Forest Management Agreement FMA 9700032. The forest management plan includes the Forest Management Agreement and non-FMA portions of Forest Management Unit R13, collectively known as the Detailed Forest Area. The Detailed Forest Area is located within the Upper Athabasca, and North Saskatchewan Land-Use Framework planning regions in west central Alberta; it falls within the Subalpine, Upper Foothills, and Lower Foothills Natural Subregions.

This wildlife status report looks at the woodland caribou. The woodland subspecies of the caribou is distributed across the forested and mountainous regions of Canada, including northern and west-central Alberta. The woodland caribou is included on the list of species that may be at risk in Alberta. This report summarizes past and ongoing research on woodland caribou ecology in Alberta as a step in updating its status designation. The report is part of the Alberta Wildlife Status Report series, which provides comprehensive summaries of selected wildlife species intended to be useful to those managing populations of species and their habitats, and to help identify species that may be formally designated as endangered or threatened.

This wildlife status report looks at the pygmy whitefish, a small, slim whitefish in Alberta that has been collected in specific habitats from only two locations in the province: Upper Waterton Lake and a restricted portion of the upper Athabasca River. Recent surveys indicate that it appears to be relatively common in Upper Waterton Lake and relatively uncommon in the Athabasca River.
