Presentations on geothermal, solar, biomass, and wind energy showcased energy technology, successful community energy projects, growing business opportunities, various provincial and federal funding programs, and the development of energy cooperatives.

In 2016 the Northern Alberta Development Council (NADC) hosted the Northern Health Summit, to connect senior health officials and experts with community leaders, with the goal of facilitating opportunities for partnerships and discussions to address key health challenges and priorities in the north. In a report following the summit, the NADC advanced six recommendations where system benefits could benefit northern communities. This report updates progress on advancing northern health care since the summit and contains details on programs that align with the six recommendations.

This preliminary study was conducted to understand how socio-economic changes impact northern Alberta and to assist communities in responding to fluctuations in economic activity. Qualitative analysis of interviews with northern leaders revealed some best practices that municipalities can consider both now and in the future as the region continues to manage and diversify its resource based economies.
