In Canada, any pesticide must be approved for use by the federal government. Pesticides are classified for use as restricted, commercial or domestic. To determine if a pesticide is registered for use in Canada, look for the pest control products act registration number on the label. If there is no PCPA number on the label, then the product must not be used.

Residents of the Calder neigbourhood in Edmonton had concerns with diesel fume impacts on the air quality in the area resulting from a Canadian National rail yard located just south of the neighbourhood. Alberta Environment conducted mobile air monitoring surveys in the winter and summer of 2004 and the winter of 2005. In general, pollutant concentrations in the neighbourhood were not significantly different from concentrations measured at the comparison stations outside the Calder neighbourhood.

Environmental assessment registry documents pertaining to the proposed Canadian Natural Resources Limited Grouse In Situ Oil Sands Project. The proposal includes the use of steam assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) technology for extraction of bitumen, a bitumen processing facility with a capacity of 50,000 barrels per day (7,949 m3/d) and a production life of approximately 20 years. The location is approximately 75 kilometres northeast of Lac La Biche, Alberta in Lac La Biche County. The EIA was deemed complete in 2015. Written for the biofuel production facility or project developer, this protocol quantifies the emission reductions from the avoidance of fossil fuel consumption when the fossil fuel is replaced by biofuels on an equivalent energy potential basis. The protocol also includes reductions in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions due to any heat/power production and electricity generation related to the process, and from the avoidance of landfilling any materials which may be diverted for conversion to biofuel. The protocol is not intended to be prescriptive, but instead serve as a generic “recipe” for biofuel facility owners and operators to follow in order to meet measurement, monitoring and GHG quantification requirements.
