This act describes the process for parties living in different provinces or territories to obtain or vary a court order for family support. It authorizes filing of maintenance orders made outside Alberta with the Alberta court and the enforcement of those orders as if they were made in Alberta.

Awards rendered under the Convention may be filed with the Court of King’s Bench and have the same force and effect as a judgement of the Court. The Convention is an international agreement dating to 1965.
