Description

Forest company forest management plans (FMPs) detail when, where and how timber on Alberta Crown land will be managed in order to balance social, economic and environmental needs based on input from the public, Indigenous peoples and stakeholders. This forest management plan covers Forest Management Area (FMA) 0900046 and includes the FMA and non-FMA portion of Forest Management Unit (FMU) R15, collectively known as the Defined Forest Area (DFA). The DFA is located in west central Alberta and falls within the Central Mixedwood, Upper Foothills, Lower Foothills and Subalpine natural subregions. The DFA is located within the Upper Athabasca and North Saskatchewan Land-use Framework planning regions.

Environmental assessment registry documents pertaining to the proposed St. Mary River Irrigation District Chin Reservoir Expansion project. Chin Reservoir is an off-stream storage reservoir that is located roughly in the middle of St. Mary River Irrigation District (SMRID) irrigation network, approximately 30 kilometers (km) east of Lethbridge and 15 km south of Taber. The Chin Reservoir Expansion Project (the Project) involves the construction of a new dam which would result in a larger reservoir. The new dam would be approximately 40 meters (m) in height and is expected to inundate (flood) approximately 650 hectares (ha) of privately held land within Chin Coulee. Alberta and the Northwest Territories have signed an agreement to collaborate on economic corridors projects to support growth and development in both jurisdictions. The agreement includes working co-operatively to enhance critical infrastructure and improve the efficiency of interjurisdictional transportation networks. This partnership will help enhance Alberta's access to the Arctic, which could open up opportunities to expand exports in key sectors.

This addendum outlines Forest Management Plan-specific ground rules which apply to area outlined in Forest Management Agreements 0100038 and 2100047 and forest management units C04, C02, C01, B01, B02 and B12. These rules are in addition to the Alberta Timber Harvest Planning and Operating Ground Rules. Where a rule in this addendum and a rule in the provincial OGR relate to the same subject matter or objective, the rule in the addendum governs. FMP-specific addendums are supplemental to the OGRs and will be negotiated with the applicable FMA holder where additional ground rules are needed to address specific strategies in an FMP or unique physical or non-physical landscape attributes.

In October 2020, Alberta and Canada signed the Agreement for the Conservation and Recovery of the Woodland Caribou in Alberta to facilitate woodland caribou recovery in Alberta. Alberta is committed to the implementation of this Agreement which supports provincial caribou recovery efforts including landscape-level planning, habitat conservation, management and recovery planning, caribou mortality and population management and caribou population and habitat monitoring. Alberta and Canada agreed to regularly report on the progress towards the commitments in this Agreement. These reports provide summaries of progress made and actions undertaken.
