The Mental Health Services Protection Act and its Regulation require the reporting of situations that have caused serious harm or death (critical incidents), as well as situations that may prevent service providers from delivering their services and/or situations that may be injurious (duty to notify).

The surveillance report was replaced by the Alberta Surveillance Substance Use System in December 2020.

Presents findings of a survey conducted with members of the Edmonton Police Service and the Calgary Police Service to better understand the physical and psychological effects that responding to calls for service related to the opiate crisis may be having on police officers. Researchers assessed how aware police officers are of opioid-related training and the emergency services available to them, and how officers believe those services might be improved. Funding for the study was provided by the OHS Futures Research Funding Program.

In June 2018 the Office of the Child and Youth Advocate released an investigative review examining the lives of twelve youth who died from opioid poisoning between October 2015 and September 2017. The review identified opportunities for system improvements in five areas, with five corresponding recommendations. All five recommendations have been accepted by the Government of Alberta, as outlined in this document.
