Description

The primary objective of this health evidence review was to conduct a clinical review and economic analysis of currently existing vascular risk reduction initiatives, contextualized to the Alberta setting and considering patient views regarding vascular disease prevention. At the time of this study, vascular diseases (which include cardiovascular disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes mellitus, chronic kidney disease, and peripheral vascular disease) affected the lives of more than 300,000 people in Alberta.

And how safe, effective, and economical are these urgent care models, and what factors contribute to the safety and/or effectiveness? In general, urgent care is defined as unscheduled health care offered, as part of emergency department care or in ambulatory settings, for acute lower-acuity conditions.

This report presents the findings and conclusions of a provincial health technology assessment on palliative and end-of-life care (PEOLC). This assessment was initiated because of a need for information on leading practices in palliative care to support improvements in these services in Alberta. The primary research question is: What is the most appropriate model to enable equitable access to PEOLC in Alberta whereby the model of care includes elements of appropriate population, care, time, place, provider, and cost for PEOLC services across remote, rural, and urban sectors, and any variation between zones is informed by evidence?
