The purpose of this manual is to ensure Forestry Division personnel and industry: are familiar with current Crown land/forest management herbicide use regulations and policies; take an active role in ensuring herbicide use on Crown land is in accordance with policies and requirements; recognize obvious and important violations of provincial legislation governing herbicide use on crown land; are comfortable performing basic herbicide inspections; and are aware of incident reporting mechanisms and follow-up.

Description

A comprehensive list of priority environmental contaminants were monitored in blood serum of pregnant women in 2005, with the purpose of establishing the magnitude of exposure to environmental contaminants during pregnancy for women living in all regions of Alberta. The objectives were specifically to examine the influence of age, geographic location, and seasonality on the maternal serum concentrations of man-made or naturally occurring chemicals that women may absorb from food, drinking water, air, soil, household dust, or commercial products. This is the first Province-wide biomonitoring study for Alberta.

A comprehensive list of priority environmental contaminants were monitored in blood serum of healthy children with the objective to examine the influence of age and to compare these new data with concentrations in pregnant women that were reported previously for the same region. In general, concentrations of detected contaminants were either lower or similar to concentrations reported in other studies of children in North America or around the world.

Description

The presence of weeds on industrial sites causes a number of concerns, such as competition with desirable plant species, spread to adjacent land which may be cultivated land, and non-compliance with the Weed Control Act. This fact sheet summarizes requirements and provides suggestions for effective weed prevention and management on industrial sites along with easy-to-access resources. It provides information on developing a weed control plan; assessing and identifying weeds; cleaning construction equipment; using seeds free of weeds; options for weed control; and selecting herbicides and soil amendments used for reclamation appropriate for future land use.

This publication presents a summary of custom work and rental rates. These rates are only intended as a guide. The specific objective of this survey summary is to organize and report custom rates for certain custom operations on the farm. No effort is made to evaluate the fairness of reported rates. The goal is to report what is being charged, not what should be charged. Farmers may find custom rates useful as a guide for machinery management, budgeting and financial planning for credit needs. Also, custom rates can be used as a guide in negotiating settlements for work performed for neighbors or others.
