Description

Explains the implementation of expedited Water Act licence and approval processes by Environment and Protected Areas to support Albertans who may be impacted by drought conditions in 2024. Assistance is available to water users who have an urgent need to find alternative diversions for the purpose of accessing water due to drought and low flow conditions, and who, if required, need assistance in submitting an application for regulatory authorizations under the Water Act.

This set of resources describes the Research Licence - Pre-Approved Assessments and Salvages (RL-PAAS), a licence for those whose work involves a high volume of fish and fish habitat assessment projects associated with collecting, holding, sampling fish for inventory or conducting fish rescues and salvages. The fact sheet includes information on when and how to apply, approval considerations and how to use this special licence. The decision tree diagram shows when to apply for an RL-PAAS compared to a Fish Research Licence, while the flow diagram demonstrates when and how to use the RL-PAAS once it has been issued. The process guide outlines the required steps to submit RL-PAAS licence notifications and approvals in writing, inform of project delays or cancelations and submit RL-PAAS data loadforms.

The MULTISAR program is focused on multi-species conservation at the landscape level that promotes stewardship through voluntary participation of landholders on both Crown and private lands. It is a collaborative effort among landholders, Alberta Conservation Association, Alberta Environment and Parks, and the Prairie Conservation Forum. This report summarizes MULTISAR's accomplishments in 2022-2023 in its three primary program areas: habitat conservation strategies; education, outreach and awareness; and research, monitoring, and evaluation.
