The Occupational Demand and Supply Outlook is released every two years and contains information on forecasted labour shortages and surpluses for occupations in Alberta for the next 10 years. The Outlook uses factors such as economic and occupational outlook, demographics and education to forecast future demand for occupations and supply of workers in Alberta.

Description

The Income Support program of Alberta Works provides financial assistance to Albertans who do not have enough money to cover basic needs such as shelter, food and clothing. The Income Support program has three client types: those expected to work (ETW); those not expected to work; and those in need of academic upgrading or training. Many of the ETW clients are employed and receive an income supplement, as they are unable to meet their basic needs. The Working Expected to Work Project was designed to gain a better understanding of the existing benefits and services received by working ETW clients, the challenges and disincentives working ETW clients face in becoming self-sufficient, the characteristics of the client group, the gaps present in the supports and services available to working ETW clients, and best practices related to ETW clients.

The Single Parent Research Project was undertaken to provide Alberta Human Resources and Employment with information on current programming strengths and weaknesses and to identify best practices. Research activities included interviews with department staff, regional staff and service providers, review of documents government documents and a literature review to identify and review information related to best practices in three other Canadian provinces as well as other comparable jurisdictions. Research focused on single parents who are in receipt of income support as well as single parents who are engaged in employment and training services.
