This information sheet contains information on Alberta's Extended Producer Responsibility Regulation, which came into force on November 30, 2022, and which establishes the Alberta Recycling Management Authority as the management board responsible for oversight of the systems implemented under the regulation.

EPR shifts the physical and financial burden of collecting, sorting, processing and recycling waste to producers who put materials into the market and away from local governments and taxpayers.

These rules are in addition to the Alberta Timber Harvest Planning and Operating Ground Rules 2023. Where a rule in the Addendum and a rule in the Provincial OGR relate to the same subject matter or objective, the rule in the Addendum governs. FMP-specific addendums are supplemental to the OGRs and will be negotiated with the applicable FMA holder where additional ground rules are needed to address specific strategies in an FMP or unique physical or non-physical landscape attributes.
