Provincial pronghorn antelope survey summary 2017

Description

Pronghorn antelope hunting opportunities are in high demand in Alberta, making the information collected during annual surveys a critical component of pronghorn management. This report provides detailed results of surveys conducted in 2017 and summarizes provincial pronghorn survey trends from 2007 to 2017. Aerial surveys are the primary method used to assess the population size, distribution, population trends and herd composition of ungulates in Alberta. This information supports the effective management and conservation of ungulates, and is used to set hunting licence allocations, identify areas with agricultural depredation problems, and determine priority areas for recovery actions.
