Prescribed fire

Description

Prescribe fire is the planned and controlled use of fire as a tool to help meet wildfire and forest management goals. This brochure explains why, when, and how Alberta uses prescribed fire to promote healthy, sustainable forests. Prescribed fires are done by trained professionals to minimize smoke effects and maximize benefits to a burn site.
