Peace Officer Act

Description

This act establishes the roles of peace officers (non-police) in Alberta and allows different levels of government the opportunity to obtain peace officer status for community safety enhancement and specialized law enforcement needs. This act establishes the requirement for authorization of employers and appointment of peace officers including the application process, suspension/cancelations, employer liability and responsibility, the role of the Director of Law Enforcement, oversight process and the mechanism for public complaints. It also establishes the offences and penalties under the act.
