Description
Inter-jurisdictional Recognitions (IJRs) provide flexibility by recognizing standards adopted in different Canadian jurisdictions. These may be issued where there is an agreement between different jurisdictions, where recognizing another jurisdiction’s standard appropriately protects the health and safety of workers in Alberta while also supporting inter-provincial trade and labor mobility.
Section 246 of the OHS Code outlines which respiratory protective equipment is allowed to be used at work sites in Alberta. An IJR has been issued that expands what is allowed to be used, which recognizes respiratory protective equipment approved by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA).

Usage Considerations
This inter-jurisdictional recognition could become redundant if, at a future date, section 246 of the OHS Code is updated to address the topic of this Inter-jurisdictional Recognition. See more at the OHS Code review website, www.alberta.ca/ohs-code-review.aspx
