Description
The Alberta Traffic Safety Plan includes a goal to reduce fatal and serious injury collisions in the province. In support of reaching this goal, Alberta Transportation commissioned Opus International Consultants (Canada) Limited to develop engineering strategies to address collision patterns on all Alberta highways and streets. This report provides a summary of the methodology and findings of Phase 1 of the resulting project. The report identifies the key collision trends in Alberta and describes a review of current practices in Alberta and research of the recent literature on the topic. It then presents a comprehensive list of possible measures and a systematic criteria for the selection of the more favourable ones, applies these criteria to over 90 measures, and culminates with the selection of 33 highly effective measures anticipated to be the most effective and the 12 "Priority 1" measures for further development and implementation.
