Environmental Assessment - Alberta Silica Corporation Peace River Silica Sand Operations

Environmental Assessment registry documents and Environmental Impact Assessment and associated applications pertaining to the proposed Alberta Silica Corporation (ASC) Peace River Silica Sand Operations Project. (ASC is a wholly owned subsidiary of United Industrial Services Ltd. (UIS).) ASC is authorized to explore the silica sand under Metallic and Industrial Minerals Permit No. 9393080332; ASC is authorized to extract the silica sand under Metallic and Industrial Mineral Lease No. 9496110001; and to surface develop, on Crown land, the sand pits and the processing plant required under Mineral Surface Lease No. MSL 941817. The lease area comprises approximately 1300 hectares (3200 acres), 300 ha (740 acres) on the west side and approximately 1010 ha (2500 acres) on the east side of the Peace River. ASC has been operating a pilot-scale operation and is applying for approval to begin full-scale operations, under which the plant site and infrastructure will remain unchanged. New pits will be developed incrementally on the southeast side of the lease, as market demand requires. The pilot silica sand operation 's facilities are located in NW28 & SW33, Twp. 84, Rge. 21, W5M, approximately 10 km north of the Town of Peace River in the Municipal District of East Peace.
