Corrections Act

Description

The act is core to the operations of adult correctional services in Alberta. It defines the roles, responsibilities and powers (including powers of delegation) held by the Minister and senior officials within the Department of Justice and Solicitor General, with respect to both community corrections and custodial operations. It sets specific rules with regard to practices such as disclosure of information, transfer of inmates, drug testing, monitoring of inmate communications, and sets roles, responsibilities and rules for disciplinary hearings and related appeals. Finally, it specifies areas in which the Lieutenant Governor may make regulations.
