Reductions in greenhouse gas emissions can be achieved through optimally-operated aerobic composting. This quantification protocol sets the parameters for offset projects involving aerobic composting. For the purposes of this protocol, the baseline condition for eligible waste streams is set as anaerobic decomposition in a managed landfill in Alberta. The project condition is a demonstrated diversion of waste from the baseline case of landfilling to an eligible aerobic composting project.
