Description
Directly measuring the natural functions of wetlands is expensive and may require years of data. A need has existed for a tool that can be applied rapidly by one person during a single visit to a wetland, which standardizes the data collected and the way it is interpreted, to indirectly yield relative estimates of a wide variety of important wetland functions. ABWRET-A is a standardized method for rapidly assessing some of the important natural functions of all types of wetlands present in Alberta. This purpose of this guide is to provide instructions and references on the use of ABWRET-A for assessing the relative value of wetlands.
