Description
This report presents statistical profiles for Alberta's 83 Provincial Electoral Divisions (PEDs), which are based on the electoral boundaries as defined by the Alberta Electoral Divisions Act, Chapter E-4.1, 2003. This Act shall come into force on Proclamation, and shall be proclaimed in force following the passing of an order of the Lieutenant Governor in Council for the holding of the next general election. A PED is a territorial unit represented by an elected Member to serve in the Alberta Provincial Legislative Assembly. Data in this report have been specially tabulated from Statistics Canada's 2001 Census of Canada, by geographic allocation of Statistics Canada enumeration areas to PEDs. The information featured was gathered from a 20% sample of households, and includes the following characteristics: age, sex, marital status, religion, language, ethnic origin, place of birth, mobility, education, labour force activity, household types, dwelling characteristics, and income. On some Indian reserves and Indian settlements in the 2001 Census, enumeration was either not permitted or interrupted before it could be completed. Data are therefore not available for the incompletely enumerated reserves and settlements, and thus are not included in the profiles. Three PEDs are affected: Drayton Valley-Calmar, Lac La Biche-St. Paul, and Lesser Slave Lake. Users are advised to refer to the appendices for further information regarding data quality, definitions and electoral maps.
