Domestic tourism in Calgary and area tourism region : a summary of domestic visitor numbers, expenditures and characteristics

Description

The annual domestic visitor profiles by region are based on analysis of the National Travel Survey (NTS) conducted by Statistics Canada. The NTS provides tourism information for travel in Alberta by domestic visitors from Alberta and other parts of Canada, and includes same-day and overnight trips for Albertans and residents from other parts of Canada. Detailed estimates for international visitors are not available at the provincial and tourism regional level due to small sample sizes and limited data from the Visitor Travel Survey (VTS). Detailed characteristics are only available for Canadian visitors.

Usage Considerations

Estimates for 2013 and 2014 are not comparable with previous years (2012 and earlier), as Statistics Canada made a major file structure change in 2013. Data was suppressed so that the 2013 and 2014 data has considerably less detail than what was available in 2012 and earlier.
