This protocol describes how Alberta Environmental Protection develops water quality guidelines for the protection of aquatic life. The purpose of these water quality guidelines is to protect aquatic life against unacceptable toxic effects. This protocol uses statistical concepts to translate the general philosophy of protecting aquatic life into guidelines that provide a consistent, high level of protection to aquatic life.
