Description

This report provides a database of first-order biodegradation rates for select petroleum hydrocarbon compounds in groundwater. These rates have been obtained from the literature or by back calculation based on data from case histories. The rates have also been normalized to +5°C and +10°C using the rule-of-thumb Q10 = 2, which assumes that rates will approximately double for each 10°C increase in temperature, or be reduced by ½ for a temperature decrease of 10°C. Summary statistics have also been compiled for the data, and compared to rates published in Suarez and Rifai (1999), which does not include temperature details.
