South Saskatchewan river basin water management plan phase two : background studies

Description

Alberta Environment is leading the development of the province's first water management plan to maximize the benefits of water use in the South Saskatchewan River Basin (SSRB) in a sustainable, environmentally-responsible way. Phase One of the water management plan was approved and implemented in June 2002 and authorized water allocation transfers and water conservation holdbacks, subject to Alberta Environment approval and conditions. The key goal of Phase 2 is to find the balance between water consumption and environmental protection in the SSRB. Eight reports were completed to provide information to support appropriate decision making. This document presents the findings of these reports.
