Description

Cyanobacteria (also referred to as blue-green algae) are common photosynthetic bacteria that live in surface waters. Under favorable conditions, such as warm water and high nutrient content, these bacteria can form nuisance “blooms”. The presence of blooms in recreational water causes unpleasant aesthetics and exposure to some toxin-producing blooms may pose potential health risks. Contact with blooms can cause skin rashes and irritation, itchy eyes, and ear infections. Inhaling water may cause allergic-like reactions, runny noses or sore throats. Ingestion of toxins can cause a range of symptoms (e.g., hepatotoxic or neurotoxic effects, and even death). There has been increased public awareness as a result of research over the past 20 years, recent monitoring efforts, and increased public education on the topic. This dataset tracks the percentage of students who completed any credential program at an Alberta publicly funded post-secondary institution within the expected completion timeline (typical duration of the program plus an additional three years). This rate is calculated based on the number of completers and the total number of students in the starting cohort. It is determined at both the sector and institution levels for all students, including full-time students.

Description

This data set includes five years of historical enrolment by Full Load Equivalents (FLE) in Alberta post-secondary system and projected FLEs for a ten year projection horizon. The FLE is measured by taking the load of the learner enrolled (instructional hours + practicum hours) and dividing by the full load of that program. This results in a comparable metric to be able to use across the system. The FLE calculation is consistent for every institution and program. Alberta Advanced Education's (AE) projection model uses historical enrolment data and population projections from Alberta Treasury Board and Finance as inputs to the model.

This report presents the number of student enrolments by French program type, authority, school, and grade, and is sourced from the end of June for each school year. A summary of enrolments in each program type since 1988, as well as graphs, are also included. Ce rapport présente le nombre d’élèves inscrits par type de programme de langue française, par autorité scolaire, par école et par niveau scolaire. Il a été élaboré à partir des données disponibles à la fin de juin de chaque année scolaire. Le rapport inclut également un résumé des inscriptions pour chaque type de programme, à parti de 1988, et des graphiques.

The data tables presented are related to enrolments in approved programs at publicly-funded post-secondary institutions within Alberta. Separate data files exist focusing on the system level, or for subsets that focus on either international or self-identified Indigenous learners.

The set of statistics in these datasets describe the Full Load Equivalent (FLE) by each institution and academic year within Alberta's publicly funded post-secondary education system. This downloadable map product includes the Provincial Electoral Divisions (PED) from the most recent provincial election. The data in this information product illustrates the boundaries of Alberta's 87 Provincial Electoral Divisions. Electoral Boundaries are defined by the Alberta Election Act, Chapter E-1, 2018. Provincial Electoral Divisions (PEDs) are territorial units represented by an elected Member to serve in the Alberta Provincial Legislative Assembly. The Provincial Electoral Divisions used in this information product were enacted in December 2017 and came into effect for the 2019 provincial general election. The PED profile contains data created by Statistics Canada in the 2021 Census of Population. The map is a Bivariate map with two factors being shown through the fill colours of each divisions the percentage of CERB recipients versus the percentage of working age people with some post-secondary education.
