Description

A Crown land reservation is a tool under Section 18(c) of the Public Lands Act, to identify a management intent that will inform and provide direction to potential land users and regulatory bodies as authorized under the Public Lands Act. A reservation is not a disposition, does not grant any rights to public land or rights to access or occupy public land or rights to the resources on the land or under it. The Crown Land Reservations dataset displays reservations under application or active with their associated data attributes allowing users to view and access existing or proposed reservation information that could influence their application if a proposed activity intersects. Description

This dataset provides the point locations of horse bands as they were observed during annual aerial surveys. Equine Management Zones are surveyed using a helicopter and horses observed on the landscape during minimum count surveys are reported. Data is stored in file geodatabase, feature class format with associated attributes, meaning each point has a number of horses observed and age class. This dataset simply reports the horses counted on the landscape at one snapshot in time. This data also depicts the flight track flown during the annual aerial minimum counts. Surveys are flown by helicopter once per year when suitable conditions permit. Areas are typically flown by grid pattern within high density areas and over known horse locations. The official boundaries are updated every 5 years with the census and should be considered the most recent official boundaries. Layers in each geodatabase include Economic Regions, Census Divisions, Census Subdivisions, Census Metropolitan Areas and Census Agglomerations, Census Tracts, and Dissemination Areas. The current boundaries are from the 2021 Census of population. For intercensal boundaries, please see the intercensus boundary record. This information is adapted from Statistics Canada, Boundary files in their respective years. This does not constitute an endorsement by Statistics Canada of this product.

Boundaries of the allotments and/or distribution units may be defined by fencelines, height of land, natural boundaries, and/or a combination of these. This is currently the most accurate representation of the distribution unit boundary and is subject to change. In some cases these boundaries may extend beyond the boundary of the Rocky Mountains Forest Reserve. In these cases this is a representation of the management unit as a whole.

Description

The Provincial Bison Protection Areas dataset is comprised of all the polygons that represent Bison Protection Areas in Alberta. In order to support the conservation, management and recovery of disease-free bison in northern Alberta, wood bison located within specified Wildlife Management Units (WMUs) are listed as Threatened under the Wildlife Act and Regulation. All hunting of wood bison within Northwest Bison Protection Area is regulated and based on issuance of a bison special licence and allocation processes for both Indigenous and non-Indigenous persons. All hunting (Indigenous and non-Indigenous) of wood bison within the Wabasca Bison Protection Area is prohibited. Legal descriptions of the boundaries of Provincial Bison Protection Areas can be found within Schedule 11 of the Wildlife Regulation. Description

This 5 class 6 m resolution land cover was created for the NSWA and BRWA in 2020-2021 using SPOT6/7 imagery from 2017 and 2018 provided by the Government of Alberta in order to assess riparian intactness for 25,272 km of shoreline in Alberta. The land cover was developed from 44 separate supervised random forest classifications of 41 different SPOT6 6m imagery tiles from 2017/2018 and was then clipped to a 50 m buffer around waterbodies of interest. The full classification is composed of 41 individual polygon files, each of which corresponds to the original SPOT tile that the classification was performed on. Details on the individual SPOT tiles is available in the accompanying report. Two data products are available from this project: Wall to Wall Land Cover (available in TIFF and FGDB formats) and Shoreline Buffer (available in TIFF format).
