Description
The Family Support for Children with Disabilities (FSCD) program works with eligible families to provide support and services based on each child and family’s needs. Supports and services are individually determined. The level and nature of support a family receives may vary depending on many factors such as the child’s disability and the family’s individual circumstances.

Usage Considerations
This data is published annually and is based on the average monthly caseload for the fiscal year going back to April 2010, and reflects the types of disabilities of children who receive supports and services from the FSCD program.
Primary disability diagnoses are grouped as follows: Autism Spectrum Disorder, other developmental conditions, physical/motor conditions, mental health disorders, sensory impairments, health conditions and unconfirmed conditions.
Autism Spectrum Disorder includes: Autism Spectrum Disorder, Asperger’s Syndrome, Autism, Childhood Disintegrative Disorder, PDD – NOS/Atypical Autism, and Rhett’s Disorder/Syndrome.
Other Developmental Conditions include: Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, brain condition or injury, Cerebral Palsy, chromosomal anomaly or developmental delay.
Physical/Motor conditions include: Muscular Dystrophy, musculo-skeletal system conditions, Spina Bifida, spinal cord conditions, or injury loss of limb/amputation.
Mental Health Disorders include: Attention Deficit Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Conduct Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, mood disorders, Schizophrenia, Tourette’s Syndrome, regulatory disorder, and reactive attachment.
Sensory Impairments include: blind, deaf, blind/deaf, hearing or visual impairment.
Health Conditions include: blood disease/disorder, cardiovascular disease, dento-facial and/or cranio-facial anomaly, digestive system disorder, disease of the skin, endocrine nutritional metabolic or immune disorder, genito-urinary condition, liver disease, neoplasm, cancer, respiratory condition or seizure disorder.
Unconfirmed conditions or impairments are generally for children who have not yet received a diagnosis.
Children may also have secondary and tertiary diagnoses. The determination of primary disability diagnosis is made by the FSCD worker who considers what condition is having the greatest impact on the child and is the primary reason for seeking support from the program.
