Description
The Family Support for Children with Disabilities (FSCD) program works with eligible families to provide support and services based on each child and family’s needs. Supports and services are individually determined. The level and nature of support a family receives varies depending on many factors, such as the child’s disability and the family’s individual circumstances.
The data goes back to April 2018 and tracks the number of Albertans eligible for the FSCD program who are currently in ‘in planning’ status in regions across the province.

Usage Considerations
Data is from eight main service areas: Calgary, Central, Edmonton, Metis Settlements, North Central, North East, North West and South.
Families considered to be 'in planning’ have an assigned FSCD worker who is engaged in assessing the child and family needs, as well as working with the family and community supports, as appropriate, to develop a support plan. In this phase, the worker may also connect the family to community resources and refer them to other government programs and services. Families 'in planning' status are grouped into three categories: referral only, draft agreements and assessment of needs and planning for supports.
Some families do not receive services. They only receive referral, and/or support with planning such as youth who are transitioning to adulthood. These families are considered to have a status of referral only.
Families that have completed assessment of needs and support planning with their worker, and have identified services that will be provided, have a draft agreement. The draft agreement requires FSCD supervisor approval and the signature of both the family and the FSCD Director to become active.
Families in the assessment of needs and support planning stage are working with staff to identify their individual and unique circumstances and their extraordinary needs related to their child's disability. Families are also discussing their vision, goals and actions to achieve their desired outcomes, including access to all supports available to the family from their natural supports, community and the FSCD and other programs.
Families that have applied to the program have their eligibility determined before they are assigned a caseworker. This step is referred to as intake.
