Usage Considerations

  • National Household Survey data are collected by Statistics Canada and provides social and economic information, covering such topics as immigration, citizenship, place of birth, ethnic origin, visible minorities, religion, Aboriginal peoples, labour, education, place of work, commuting to work, mobility and migration, language of work, income, earnings, housing and shelter costs.

  • More information about the National Household Survey can be found on the Statistics Canada website, at https://www12.statcan.gc.ca/nhs-enm/2011/dp-pd/prof/index.cfm?Lang=E

  • Statistics Canada has adopted an open licence which allows this product to be accessible to all GOA employees and to the general public.  This product has been reproduced and distributed on an “as is “ basis with the permission of Statistics Canada.   It was originally acquired by Alberta Aboriginal Relations.

  • For the 2011 National Household Survey (NHS) estimates, the global non-response rate (GNR) is used as an indicator of data quality. This indicator combines complete non-response (household) and partial non-response (question) into a single rate. The value of the GNR is presented to users. A smaller GNR indicates a lower risk of non-response bias and as a result, lower risk of inaccuracy. The threshold used for estimates' suppression is a GNR of 50% or more.

  • Geographies for the NADC have been updated and reconciled to 2011 Standard Geography Classification.
