Description
This Children and Family Services dataset provides an overview of the number of Indigenous and non-Indigenous children and youth achieving a permanency outcome. The child intervention system is part of Alberta’s system of support for families that encourages good outcomes for children and youth. Child intervention services are focused on the well-being of children, supporting families to be healthy, and ensuring children grow up in safe and nurturing homes.
Intervention services are provided when there are concerns that a child or youth is being neglected or abused by their parent or guardian, with the goal of keeping families together (family preservation), returning children home safely (family reunification), or finding other permanent homes through legal permanency (adoption, private guardianship and termination of PGO/PGA) for children as quickly as possible.
Permanency outcomes are posted two years after the report period end date and from there the data shows the total number of permanency outcomes in the province for each fiscal year dating back ten years. There is a further breakdown of the information by the number of Indigenous and non-Indigenous children achieving permanency outcomes.
Information is available through the links listed below as aggregate data in Excel, as visualizations in CI Interactive Data Tool and as descriptions of data fields and elements in the Data Dictionary.

The data presents the number of child intervention permanency outcomes achieved for each fiscal year by Indigenous/non-Indigenous from 2012-13 to 2021-22.
There are four related outcome indicators: - Family Preservation: Number of children/youth who remained at home and did not move into care. - Family Reunification: Number of children/youth who returned to their family and did not move to permanent care or aged out. - Adoption: Number of children/youth placed in a permanent home through adoption. - Private Guardianship: Number of children/youth placed in a permanent home through private guardianship.
