The concept of a dam at the Meridian site has been considered for many years, but no previous studies have assessed the economic, environmental, and social benefits and costs. The purpose of this study is to provide a preliminary estimate of benefits and costs, as well as a broad assessment of the potential environmental and social issues associated with construction and operation of a dam and reservoir. This reservoir would supply water for irrigation, generate hydroelectric power and perhaps offer opportunities for water-based recreation. Findings of this study are expected to assist the Governments of Alberta and Saskatchewan in determining whether further investigation of the Meridian Dam is warranted.2016-05-20T18:51:05.191323+00:00https://open.alberta.ca/dataset/febe25b4-eafa-4093-aaf7-c75f2db65973South Saskatchewan River Basin water management recommendations in response to Phase 2 terms of reference : a report to Alberta Environment2023-09-05T19:34:49.331979+00:00This report was submitted as advice to guide development of Phase 2 of the water management plan for the South Saskatchewan River Basin. It presents the work of four basin advisory committees which were formed for the primary purpose of recommending water conservation objectives for each major river downstream of the major dams that would provide a reference point for the future and would describe the best balance between protection of the aquatic environment and consumption of water for economic growth.2018-09-18T16:14:42.924929+00:00https://open.alberta.ca/dataset/7541cb1e-b511-4a98-8b76-af33d7418fa1Approved water management plan for the South Saskatchewan River Basin (Alberta)2018-01-22T18:21:57.246314+00:00The plan will provide guidance to decision makers and act as a foundation for future watershed management planning of sub-basins in the South Saskatchewan River Basin by watershed planning and advisory councils, as well as stewardship groups. The plan recommends a balance that is broadly acceptable to the public between water consumption and environmental protection, in light of economic and social objectives and ecological requirements.2016-05-19T21:24:55.766732+00:00https://open.alberta.ca/dataset/5e8e75da-2dfe-4144-9630-a406e4059366Highlights : approved water management plan for the South Saskatchewan River Basin2018-01-22T18:10:42.110169+00:00Presents an overview of the new water management plan for the South Saskatchewan River Basin. This policy takes a place-based approach to water management, guiding industry working in naturally water-short areas and areas with development pressures to maximize water conservation efforts. The ultimate goal of the policy and accompanying guideline is to reduce or eliminate allocation of non-saline water for oilfield injection, while respecting the rights of current licence holders.2016-05-11T16:23:22.577228+00:00https://open.alberta.ca/dataset/f4f40c00-5e52-4ea0-a1cf-3ecdafd61b95Water conservation and allocation guideline for oilfield injection2022-10-17T14:56:36.575563+00:00This document provides direction for regulatory agencies and developers where the use of non-saline water resources may by essential to an Enhanced Recover Scheme for underground (oilfield) injection. The purpose of the guideline is to support the conservation and management of water and to prevent excess use of water during enhanced recovery of hydrocarbon resources.2018-03-13T14:45:00.669241+00:00https://open.alberta.ca/dataset/eb685b31-05f4-4b64-a399-c2cb7555ffd2AWMEC : Alberta water management and erosion control program2022-03-21T17:46:07.782614+00:00The Alberta Water Management and Erosion Control Program was implemented to assist local authorities in resolving surface water management and erosion control problems by providing advice and financial assistance.
