The health research and innovation strategy maps out an integrated, results-oriented approach to health research and innovation with the goals of improving health outcomes for Albertans, increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of the health system and creating economic benefits for the province. The 10-year strategy will influence the government's funding allocations and inform decisions made by agencies and private sector organizations engaged in health research in Alberta.

Alberta Health and Wellness released a new continuing care strategy, Aging in the Right Place, in December 2008. One of the initiatives identified in this strategy was the development of a health technology roadmap which would inform the Government of Alberta about the current state of continuing care health technology and expected changes to this technology over the next 10 to 15 years. The purpose of this roadmap is to assist the Government with the selection and implementation of continuing care technology.

The Alberta food and health innovation framework was developed by the Alberta Life Sciences Institute in collaboration with Alberta Health and Wellness, Alberta Agriculture and Rural Development, Alberta Advanced Education and Technology, Alberta Science Research Authority, and Alberta Agricultural Research Institute. The framework was developed as an overarching provincial approach to increase innovation in health and food, to meet challenges, and to take advantage of opportunities.
