Description

The Climate Technology Task Force (CTTF) was established in September 2016 to lead stakeholder engagement and to provide recommendations on a framework to guide Alberta’s investments in greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction innovation and technology. This report presents the results of the work done by the CTTF. Six recommendations are made for consideration in developing Alberta’s Climate Change Innovation and Technology Framework.

Description

Presents the recommendations from the Oil Sands Advisory Group (OSAG) to the Government of Alberta on innovation as it pertains to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reductions in the oil sands sector. The recommendations are the second integrated component of the overall set of actions that will be required to effectively implement the Alberta Climate Leadership Plan (ACLP) and achieve the objectives in the plan. OSAG, composed of members from industry, environmental organizations and Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities, was established in July 2016 to advise government on the oil sands aspects of the Climate Leadership Plan and to ensure that the Plan’s initiatives are effective and widely supported.

Description

The Climate Change Innovation and Technology Framework serves as the overarching guide for the investment of funds from the pricing of carbon emissions for innovation and clean technology. It supports investments in clean innovation across a number of technology areas, including hydrocarbons in the oil sands, renewable energy, green products and services, and other areas. Public investments will result in broad industry and public benefits, and will minimize the environmental impacts of technology deployment. And as discoveries and opportunities emerge in the technology and innovation sectors, the Framework will enable the province to adjust accordingly.
