Description

This protocol specifically quantifies greenhouse gas emissions reductions from the following three activities: new carbon stored annually in agricultural soil; lower nitrous oxide emissions from soils under no till management; and associated emission reductions from reduced fossil fuel use from fewer passes per farm field. This quantification protocol is written for project developers and farm operators implementing conservation cropping offset projects in the Dry Prairie and Parkland ecozones. NOTE: Per section 6(2) of the Standard for Greenhouse Gas Emission Offset Project Developers, the prescribed duration of the offset crediting period for existing emission offset projects using the protocol ends December 31, 2021.

These guidelines outline Forest Management Branch (SRD) expectations for operational stand-level planning of various partial harvest or non-clearcut systems. The guidelines are a more detailed supplement to the standards found in Appendix C, Annex 1 of the Alberta Forest Management Planning Standard. The guidelines are designed to provide direction to forest industry staff in developing partial harvest stand-level crop plans and monitoring of results, and to provide direction to SRD staff in reviewing and approving such plans.
