Description

Results of a field study conducted in the summer of 2000 showed that when the antioxidant ethylene diurea (EDU) was applied to crops, there were increases in several parameters. The next step was to verify whether the effects of EDU resulted from EDU-mediated protection against ozone or from plant growth promoting effects of EDU that are independent of ozone. A series of controlled environment trials were designed to test this hypothesis.

To learn more about sediment and water quality in Wabamun Lake and how it compares to other area lakes, Alberta Environment started several comprehensive studies of the lake in the summer of 2002, including assessments of differences in water quality across the lake, metals and trace organic contaminants in sediments, the significance of sediment quality to aquatic biota and the occurrence of disinfection by-products from the Wabamun Lake Water Treatment Plant. Additionally, a report summarizing the 20-year history of water quality of Wabamun Lake hasbeen compiled to provide a historical perspective on water quality of the lake.

Field data collection for the Researching Amphibian Numbers in Alberta (RANA) program was initiated in 1997 in response to the global decline of amphibians. RANA has two primary objectives: to collect long-tenn data on amphibian species populations in Alberta, and to provide public education on the importance of amphibians and wetland conservation. This document is a compilation of 2002 field results from the five existing RANA sites at Kananaskis (Bow Valley), Hinton (Athabasca Valley), Lesser Slave Lake Provincial Park, Saskatoon Island Provincial Park, and Manook Biological Research Station near Athabasca.

A licence must be in good standing before the Director can consider a transfer application.
