Description
Presents the results of an aerial survey for moose conducted in Wildlife Management Unit 529 from Jan. 24 to 26, 2017, using distance sampling techniques. The objective of the 2017 survey was to assess the status of the moose population by determining a population estimate for moose based on density estimates and the age-sex composition. Aerial surveys are the primary method used to assess the population size, distribution, population trends and herd composition of ungulates in Alberta. This information supports the effective management and conservation of ungulates, and is used to set hunting licence allocations, identify areas with agricultural depredation problems, and determine priority areas for recovery actions.
