Description

According to the Continuing Care Regulation under the Continuing Care Act, all licensed supportive living operators are legally required to follow the provincial standards. The accommodation standards provide the standards for voluntary, public, and private organizations operating supportive living accommodations in Alberta. The standards direct operators of supportive living accommodations in the delivery of quality accommodation services to residents.  The purpose of the accommodation standards is to ensure that all supportive living accommodations maintain a high quality of accommodation services that promote the safety, security, and quality of life for Albertans living in those accommodations. Operators of supportive living accommodations will also be able to provide assurances to residents, employees, the public and municipalities that their accommodations are operating in accordance with established accommodation standards.

According to the Continuing Care Regulation under the Continuing Care Act, The Continuing Care Health Service Standards establish the minimum expectations in the provision of high quality, individualized health care services, provided to clients receiving publicly funded services from type 1 and type 2 home and community care providers residents of type A and type B continuing care homes. This includes assessed health and personal care services provided by nurses, therapists, health care aides and other health care professionals.

Continuing care health service standards (CCHSS) are a legislated requirement of operators pursuant to the Continuing Care Regulation under the Continuing Care Act. The standards set the minimum requirement that operators in the continuing care system must comply with in the provision of publicly funded health care. Promotes innovative design for continuing care homes (which includes long-term care and designated supportive living) and supportive living accommodations that provide continuing care services in Alberta. The overall goal of the resource is to integrate design concepts to facilitate the provision of quality accommodation and health care services within comfortable, safe, aesthetically pleasing, and home-like environments. All newly-constructed continuing care homes larger than 14 spaces that receive public funding must meet the standards outlined in this document. In cases of difference between these documents and national/provincial codes, the most restricted and higher requirements shall govern.
