This resource is intended to support school authorities in their development of a mental health and well-being continuum of supports and services to recognize the fact that students need to feel physically and psychologically safe in order to fulsomely engage in learning. Current research clearly identifies the importance of mental health to learning, as well as to students' social and emotional development. Given the important relationship between positive mental health and academic success, schools have an important role in nurturing students' positive mental health and well-being. The goal of this resource is to help build a shared understanding of how schools, community partners and government can better work together to support mental health, to ensure that every student in Alberta has the learning opportunities and supports they need to develop positive mental health, be an engaged and successful learner and reach their full potential. Includes an information tool at the end to guide work around developing a mental health strategy.
