Provides guidance on the recommended use of chevron gore pavement markings. Gore is the term used to define the location where the edge of highway and edge of ramp (or opposing highway direction) meet each other. Pavement markings at gore areas are critical for helping motorists orientate themselves to the roadway geometry and ensure they safely navigate the highway network. Part of a series of recommended practices for traffic control measures, including roadway signs and signals, pavement markings, traffic operations, roadside development and at-grade rail crossings.

Paint is the most common material used for transverse pavement markings (crosswalks, stop bars, traffic arrows, etc.), as it is relatively inexpensive, easy to apply and dries quickly after application. However, it requires periodic remarking due to the deterioration caused by traffic, snow removal equipment and environmental forces. A project was conducted to determine the effectiveness of two types of alternative pavement marking materials (System 400 & PolyCarb Mark-55.4) to find more durable pavement marking materials.
