Alberta Environment and Parks and the Alberta Energy Regulator manage the use of public lands for all Albertans through the issuance of dispositions. A disposition must be obtained under the Public Lands Act for any access to or activity on public lands and in compliance with the Public Lands Administration Regulation. The Master Schedule of Standards and Conditions (MSSC) identifies conditions that apply to formal disposition applications approved under the Public Land Act. Conditions displayed in this document are part of multiple approval systems and processes. The MSSC updates and replaces two previous departmental condition documents: the Integrated Standards and Guidelines for the Enhanced Approvals Process disposition applications and the Master Schedule of Conditions that addressed disposition applications for any remaining public lands disposition applications.

Description

The Policy on Consultation with Metis Settlements on Land and Natural Resource Management was developed in consultation with the Metis Settlements General Council and a working group of Settlement leaders, as well as industry stakeholders. It establishes a formal consultation process between Alberta, project proponents and the Metis Settlements. The policy came into force on April 4, 2016 and was amended in April 2020. Implementation of the policy is consistent with Alberta's approach to the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People.

The Government of Alberta’s Policy on Consultation with Metis Settlements on Land and Natural Resource Management, 2015 (Policy) was released in the Spring of 2016. To fully implement the Policy, the Government of Alberta has developed these Guidelines, along with sector-specific consultation matrices (Appendix A of this document). The Guidelines were modeled after the First Nation consultation guidelines, and support clarity of roles, transparency and consistency for all stakeholders involved in the consultation process.
