The Alberta Activity Index (AAX) closely tracks economic activity. Developed by Alberta Treasury Board and Finance, it is a weighted average of nine monthly indicators (employment, average weekly earnings, retail trade, wholesale trade, manufacturing, new truck sales, housing starts, rigs drilling and oil production). Presents the findings of an investigation of workplace fatalities that took place in the manufacturing, packaging and processing sector in May 2019. Workers were testing a frac sand handling system for a sand bin, when the bin collapsed. Two workers were trapped in the sand and succumbed to their injuries.
