The standards outline the minimum requirements with which any land must comply in order to be classified as “irrigable”, and are the standards to be used for the classification of lands for the formation of a new district, or for the reclassification of lands within a district. These standards apply to all irrigation districts in Alberta. Alberta Agriculture, Food and Rural Development, Irrigation Branch, has prepared a procedures manual for use with these standards.

The purpose of the procedures manual is to provide a comprehensive handbook on land classification for irrigation, and to enhance uniformity among land classifiers.. This fourth edition of the procedures manual was printed following an amendment to the Irrigation Districts Act, Irrigation General Regulation, on February 24, 2003, allowing Irrigation Council to specify which standards are acceptable for land assessment purposes. The land irrigability classes in the current Standards for the Classification of Land for Irrigation in the Province of Alberta are the basis for selection of land for irrigation development.

Presents the results of a project to conduct terrain and vegetation resource inventories of the Notikewin South area. The Notikewin South study area is located in northwestern Alberta and comprises some 15,000 square kilometres of land bounded on the south and east by the Peace River, on the west by the Alberta-British Columbia border and on the north by the Notikewin River.
