The Alberta Immunization Policy outlines the policies for the provision of publicly-funded immunizations in Alberta. It contains a complete listing of vaccines and biologicals that are publicly-funded and indications for their use. PLEASE NOTE: These policies and documents are revised as new research and national recommendations become available. Please ensure you are always referencing the current version of the document. Check this page regularly for updates. The Canadian Immunization Guide recommendations should be consulted when further information about immunization is required.

The purpose of this document is to provide AEFI reporting guidance for Alberta immunization providers. The Alberta Influenza Immunization Policy (IIP) sets out the requirements for the provincially-funded Influenza Immunization Program. The objectives of the policy are: to reduce the incidence and impact of influenza disease in Alberta; to have effective and safe influenza vaccines available for administration; to increase the coverage rates of targeted populations; and for all people in Alberta to have access to provincially-funded influenza vaccine.

The monitoring of adverse events following immunization (AEFI) involving vaccines and biologicals administered in Alberta is an important evaluation component of the provincial immunization program. This document has been developed specifically for COVID-19 vaccine AEFI active surveillance. Active AEFI surveillance for COVID-19 vaccine in Alberta involves a collaboration between Alberta Health, Alberta Health Services Provincial AEFI Team, and the Canadian National Vaccine Safety Network (CANVAS).
