Alberta Health and Wellness released a new continuing care strategy, Aging in the Right Place, in December 2008. One of the initiatives identified in this strategy was the development of a health technology roadmap which would inform the Government of Alberta about the current state of continuing care health technology and expected changes to this technology over the next 10 to 15 years. The purpose of this roadmap is to assist the Government with the selection and implementation of continuing care technology.

Description

Alberta’s health system in 2008 is highly technical, increasingly complex, relies on expertly trained staff, and includes 104 hospitals and 195 sites that provide long-term care services across the province. VISION 2020 outlines a future for Alberta’s health system and describes how health care will be delivered in a strong, sustainable way by the year 2020. It provides direction on how to improve the delivery of services across the whole health system including public health, acute and continuing care, delivery of pharmaceuticals, ambulance services, health system governance and accountability.
