The Fiscal Plan outlines the government’s forecasts for the economy, revenue and spending, and main policy decisions or initiatives. Provided in an open data format are chapters of the Fiscal Plan. The Fiscal Plan is the centerpiece of the Government’s annual budget, which also includes the estimates, the government’s strategic plan, and the ministry business plans. These documents are in Excel format. See the related tab for PDF format.

The budget outlines the government's financial plans from April 1 to March 31 each year. This record includes links to separate records in the Portal for each year's budget. These records include the fiscal plan, Government of Alberta strategic business plan, and ministry business plans, as well as supporting documents for the specific year. Check the "Related" tab for each record for links to the Offices of the Legislative Assembly Estimates and Government Estimates, which also make up part of each year's budget.

The Government of Alberta's Budget 2022 is aimed at moving Alberta forward by strengthening the province's health-care system, getting more Albertans to work, and bringing Alberta's balance sheet back into the black. A new initiative called Alberta at Work will help Albertans take advantage of economic growth and prosperity and give them more opportunities to build their skills, pursue their passions and support themselves and their families. The documents in this record include the Government of Alberta's fiscal plan and strategic plan for 2022, ministry business plans, highlight documents and the budget address. NOTE: the 2021-22 Fiscal Plan Update was added on March 17, 2022 to reflect supplementary amounts for electricity rebates and supporting the Ukraine relief effort. Updates also capture additional forecasted transfers from the budgeted contingency.

The Government of Alberta's Budget 2021 is focused on protecting the lives and livelihoods of Albertans during the COVID-19 pandemic. Focus is on ensuring that the province's health care system is properly resourced to continue the fight against COVID-19 and to protect the lives of Albertans. Budget 2021 also includes significant support for Alberta's Recovery Plan to support jobs today and tomorrow. A strategic focus on key economic sectors will set the stage for post-pandemic recovery. In addition, sound fiscal anchors of net debt to GDP, aligning our per capita spending with other major provinces and re-establishing a plan to balance the budget post-pandemic, will protect the health of Alberta's finances.

Budget 2017 is about making the lives of Albertans better. Alberta is just now beginning to recover from the steepest and most prolonged slide in oil prices in recent history. Alberta is also rebuilding after the Wood Buffalo wildfire – the largest natural disaster in Alberta’s history. Budget 2017 continues to build on the Jobs Plan with economic diversification, support for families and putting Albertans to work. This plan sets the foundation for the return to growth. It is also forward looking and supports sustained growth through investment in critical infrastructure and the implementation of the internationally regarded Climate Leadership Plan that has already resulted in decisions that support expanded market access for Alberta’s energy industry.

Budget 2016 addresses the challenges Albertans face as a result of the steepest and most prolonged slide in oil prices in recent history by promoting economic diversification and job creation, supporting families in times of hardship and improving access to education and skills training while restraining the rate of growth in government operating expense. Budget 2016 implements the Climate Leadership Plan that will make Alberta one of the world’s most progressive and forward-looking energy producers. By addressing climate change in a meaningful way, the Plan will improve access to markets for Alberta’s energy industry. The Plan sets a price for carbon and will fully reinvest these dollars into the economy, helping Albertans and Alberta businesses adjust while also investing in green infrastructure, energy efficiency initiatives and other areas to protect existing jobs and create new jobs in Alberta.
