These bulletins are created to provide health care professionals with clarification and guidance in understanding the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan (AHCIP) and to keep them apprised of updates and changes to the Plan. Bulletin numbering reflects the AHCIP services to which the bulletin pertains. Bulletins in this record refer to dental services covered by AHCIP. New bulletins are released as required. Please be aware that information in older bulletins may be superseded by more recent bulletins.

The information in this report reflects: the actual charges billed by general dental practitioners in the province; the amount submitted prior to any dental insurance coverage; and dental costs only. It does not include any lab fees that may be part of a treatment plan.

A review of dental fees in Alberta found that fees are higher and rising faster than in other jurisdictions across Canada, all of which have a fee guide. To address this concern, the Alberta government and the Alberta Dental Association and College are developing a fee guide so Albertans can better compare prices and make well-informed decisions about their dental care.
