Certification is the process used by Alberta Children’s Services to review educational training and competencies to determine eligibility and issue certification towards provincial certification in accordance with the Alberta Early Learning and Child Care Act. Working in licensed child care programs is a regulated occupation. Individuals who work in licensed facility-based and home-based child care programs must hold provincial certification issued by the Alberta Government. The Government of Alberta has provided operational grant funding to early learning and child care centres to support access to, and affordability of, quality child care spaces in Alberta. This report by R.A. Malatest & Associates Ltd. presents the findings of the Year 1 (2017/2018) and Year 2 (2018/2019) evaluations of the initiative. Also included in this record is a summary report from Children's Services which highlights some of the evaluation's key findings and briefly outlines the Alberta government's next steps for initiatives and investments in child care.
